Effect of cortisone and ACTH on blood pressure of hypotensive, potassium-deficient rats.

چکیده
PREVIOUS studies from this laboratory have shown that both intact and hypertensive rats exhibit a gradual but progressive fall in blood pressure when deprived of dietary potassium." Further studies have shown that this depressor response is associated with a loss of body potassium' 5 and a decrease of peripheral vascular reactivity to pressor agents.' 7 The possible involvement of the adrenal cortex in this depressor response suggested itself to us previously, since the potassium-deficient rat exhibits several characteristics in common with the untreated adrenalectomized animal, including subnormal nutritional state, hypotension, decreased peripheral vascular responsiveness, and an intolerance to stress. Moreover, altered adrenocortical structure and function have been observed in potassium-deficient rats." It was therefore deemed important to determine whether or not the depressor response of the potassium-deficient state was related at least in part to consequent alteration of adrenocortical function.

Effect of adrenalectomy upon the pressor action of potassium in hypotensive, potassium-deficient rats.
The administration of potassium to hypotensive, potassium-deficient rats results in a prompt restoration of their lowered blood pressure to noimotensive levels. Similar repletion of the potassium deficit in adrenalectomized rats is only partially effective in restoring the blood pressure to noimotensive levels. The spontaneous retention of potassium which occurs in potassium-deficient rats foll...

متن کاملThe Effect of Potassium Deficiency upon Adreno- Cortical Secretion
The potassium-deficient rat exhibits several features in common with the untreated adrenalectomized rat, among which are subnormal growth. lowered blood pressure (1-3), diminished blood pressure responsiveness to pressor substances (4), and decreased tolerance to trauma. It therefore was considered important to determine whether the depressor response induced by potassium depletion might in fac...
متن کاملAcute and Chronic Effects of Ferula persica on Blood Pressure of Hypertensive Rats and Its Possible Mechanism of Action
Background: Ferula persica has been used in traditional medicine for treatment of high blood pressure. In this study acute and chronic effect of aqueous F. persica extract on BP of hypertensive rats and its possible mechanism of action have been investigated. Methods: Eighty two male Wistar rats were divided into 12 experimental groups. Hypertension was induced by Goldblatt method in ...
